CEFROHT and EALA-ATNR Committee Discuss Agroecology Partnership

KAMPALA – The Center for Food and Adequate Living Rights (CEFROHT) held a pivotal meeting with Hon. Francoise Uwumukiza, Chairperson of the East African Legislative Assembly’s Agriculture, Tourism, and Natural Resources (EALA-ATNR) Committee, at the Parliament of Uganda. The discussions focused on fostering collaboration to advance agroecology, food rights, and sustainable food systems across the East African Community (EAC).

Key areas of cooperation included joint implementation of the East African Dialogue and capacity-building initiatives for EALA-ATNR committee members. A training session is slated for November 13–15, 2024, in Kampala, aimed at enhancing lawmakers’ understanding of agroecology and the need for a robust institutional framework to support its integration within the EAC. The initiative also seeks to harmonize agroecology policies across member states.

EALA invited CEFROHT to present its regional agroecology advocacy work before the committee in October. Additionally, the committee requested CEFROHT to arrange a field visit to an agroecology demonstration site. Hon. Uwumukiza outlined steps to formalize the partnership between the committee and the organization.
