
Akware DoreenProgram Manager, Sustainable Agri-food Systems and Climate Justice
Doreen Akware is the Program Manager for the Sustainable Agri-Food Systems and Climate Justice Program at the Centre for Food and Adequate Living Rights (CEFROHT). She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Law and a postgraduate diploma in Legal Practice from the Law Development Centre. With a strong background in legal and policy formulation, she provides strategic support in shaping frameworks that advance food security, climate justice, and sustainable agriculture.
An expert in land and food law, Doreen has extensive experience in litigation, legal advocacy, and social equity matters within the food and beverage industry. She also specializes in coalition and consortium building, leveraging her legal expertise to foster collaborative efforts among stakeholders. Through her pro bono work in rural Uganda, she has championed the rights of smallholder women and youth farmers, ensuring equitable access to justice in land tenure and user rights.
At the regional level, Doreen has coordinated stakeholder engagements within the East African Community (EAC), contributing to the development of legal and policy frameworks that promote sustainable agri-food systems. Her dedication to advancing climate-resilient agriculture and equitable land governance continues to drive meaningful change in Uganda and across East Africa.
